Visual Analysis

Task 2 Visual Analysi

Visual Analysis

Is a method of understanding design that focuses on the visual elements and principles.

In design, visual analysis plays a crucial role in decision-making, problem-solving, communication, and understanding complex information.

HOW DOES VISUAL ANALYSIS WORK?

• Phase 1: Observation

First determine the object of observation. And then begin with an overall observation of the selected object. Pay attention to its general appearance, layout, structure, etc. Note its size, shape, color, and other basic features, as well as the various elements and components it contains.

• Phase 2: Analysis

Observe the collected visual information and identify the most important and relevant elements.
Distinguish how these elements are combined, understand their interrelationships and interactions.

• Phase 3: Interpretation

Find other design works by the designer related to this work, and integrate them with the historical background. Observe, describe, and analyze the design significance and creative purpose of these works.

Phase 1: Observation

This design work is in vertical format. In the center of this photo, there is a black sea turtle with a beach underneath it and some plant roots. Its shell has disappeared, replacing various types of garbage. The sand in the upper left and lower right corners of the screen is illuminated by light, making the black turtle in the center of the picture even more prominent. In the top left corner is the name of this work.(78words)

PHASE 2: ANALYSIS

In design principles, The white sand in the picture contrasts with the garbage on the black turtle's back.

Turtles and garbage are both symbols. Turtles often symbolize the ocean and the creatures that live in it. Trash is clearly visible on the turtle's back, including banana peels and Coke cans, also symbolizing recyclable and non-recyclable waste.

According to Gestalt theory, the turtle and the garbage on its back are a whole body and not its shell. This also shows how harmful garbage is to the ocean.

The title word on the picture also clearly expresses the designer's thoughts.(104words)

PHASE 3: INTERPRETATION

Image 2

Image 3

In September 2015, designer Christian Worst was inspired to create these three images after seeing traces of garbage on a beach in Malaysia.

The designer found the bodies of marine animals that died on the coast, took photos, and created them using Photoshop. At that time, many designers would combine graphic design with photography, and Christian adopted this design style.

The designer integrated three types of marine organisms with garbage and designed these three images. These three images have similar design styles, all using diagonal white space to highlight the damage suffered by marine animals in the center of the picture due to environmental pollution.

The belly of the fish in image 2 is sliced open and filled with tiny beads. The seal in image 3 suffocated to death by being wrapped around its neck with a plastic rope.

This can make viewers feel uncomfortable, but it is precisely because of this that people take the harm of environmental pollution to marine life seriously.(165words)

Teacher suggestion

To explain in detail the three phase of visual analysis.
An analysis of the commonalities between the designer's three works, and notation of what materials were referenced

Self-reflection

I revised my explanation of the three phase of visual analysis, and marked the names of the books I referenced in the third part. This gave me a deeper understanding of visual analysis.
